Specie Name :             WARTHOG

Scientific Name :             Phacochoerus africanus

Description :
Grey with sparse hair and long mane the back.
Long porcine snout with large tusks that curl upwards.
" Swollen" eyes and prominent " warts" on the sides of the face.
Boars have two sets of warts and sows only one.
Flees with the thin tail held straight up.

Mass:
                            Boars 60 -105 kg, sows 45 - 70 kg.

Habitat :
Not very habitat specific, but avoid tall grass and thickets.

Behavior :
Usually encountered in family groups or bachelor groups.
Breeding boars solitary or with family.
Sleep at night in earth holes and only appear when the morning is warm enough.
Foraging is unpredictable and without direction, feeding on grass and bulbs.
Warthog drink every day and are fond of mudbaths.
2- 3 (Sometimes more) young are born in Nov, after 6 months' gestation, and remain concealed in hole for the first 2 weeks.

Hunt Method :
This character has a good nose and hearing, but cannot see very well and is not very fast either.
They often return to the same foraging spots, providing you with an " address" to hunt.
They can be surprisingly resistant to shots and the brain lies further back than you would expect (aim between the eye and the ear).
The meat is not to be scorned, but note that in certain areas there are restrictions on transporting it due to disease control.
