Description
:
Reddish-brown, underside of body and inside of legs white.
Tail short and same colour as body, white underneath.
Black blaze on nose.
Large eyes with black glands in front.
Characteristic large ears.
Carries head high, also when fleeing.
Horns:
Males only.
Slender, straight, sharp and smooth.
Wide apart and upright.
Mass:
9 - 13 kg. Females slightly heavier
than males.
Habitat :
Found in almost all terrian.
Behavior :
Solitary,
sometimes in pairs.
Both males and females territorial and use regular latrines and cover their
droppings.
Browse and graze and independent of water.
Active day and night, rest in shade during hot hours.
Mate throughout year, but lambing peaks in Sep/Oct.
Gestation 170 days, new-born remains concealed.
Hunt Method :
Hunt slowly upwind during early morning or late afternoon when they are
feeding.
Flees in a zigzag dash, then inevitably stops not far off to look back.
