Travel Information

We have several species of edible fish as well as sharks available.
Your guide, Renier, knows these species better than he knows his own family.......
You are sure to get hooked up and fighting!!

We will be adding information to this page on an ongoing basis -
for now, we are listing the most common species you will be going for.

Species:  Kabeljou (Cob)

This will be the most prevelant species you will be going after. They are great fun to hunt and provides excellent sport. Cob can grow REALLY big - up to well over 100 pounds. Our law provides a minimum size of 40cm (about 15 inches) and limits you to two fish of over 70cm (about 32 inches). In total, each angler can take ten a day.
Bait is normally fresh pilchard, but they will also readily take white mussel (clams).
Species:   Steenbras

A great fighter!! When you have a sizable Steenbras at the end of your line, believe me, you will know about it!! Again - they can grow fairly big and specimens of around 10 to 15kg (22 to 36 pounds) can be taken. The little ones will drive you nuts - eating your bait off your hook before Grandad can get there!! Limits are the same as for Cob.
Species:   Galjoen (Gallion)

This is probably the most popular eating fish along our coast. They are also the ones that need the most finesse to catch. You will be limited to a total of eight of these - but believe me, catching eight of them will not be easy. The larger ones get quite uppity when you hook them and are a lot of fun!!
Species:   Bronze Whaler Shark (Bronzie)

Here's the fighter!! Prepare yourself for a couple of hours of matching your will against the pure muscle of this VERY obstinate fish. These can go over 200 pounds and, if you hook one of those, we will call in the paramedics to revive you after the fight!!!
Specie:   Spotted Shark (Spotty)

A shyer cousin to the Bronzie above, but just as much fun to catch. While they don't grow as big, they are just as obstinate about getting out in the fresh air!! During our winter months (May to August) the big Bronzies are off to warmer climes for a vacation and we keep ourselves busy playing with their cousins!

Specie:   Beer (Jibuli)

These take any bait whatsoever and we certainly catch a lot of them!!!

The main thing here is to prepare yourself for the best vacation of your life! Our coast line gets in your blood - once you have been here it is like you are never complete again until you get back here.

African Days (Fishing), through Renier de Villiers and Rock and Surf Angling Tours, will ensure that you have a great time.

Quit thinking about it - we are baiting the hooks and waiting for you!!
