Answers to some General Questions:

"How do I get there?"

You have two options:
a) Fly from you home town to Washington DC. There you connect to South African Airlines for a flight to Johannesburg, South Africa. You arrive in Johannesburg the following day and connect with another SAA flight to Windhoek, Namibia, arriving the same day at about 19h00 (seven o'clock in the evening).  Using this option means that, if you leave home today, you will be in Namibia tomorrow evening. This is the number one recommended route.
b) Fly from your nearest airport to Frankfurt, Germany, arriving early the next morning. You will then spend the day in Frankfurt, either in a hotel to freshen up, or you can visit the town. That evening you fly to Windhoek in Namibia, arriving the next morning at around 09h00. Using this option means that, if you leave home today, you will be in Namibia day after tomorrow.

See you in Africa!!

How do I get a hotel reservation in Johannesburg if we have to spend the night there?
African Odyssey will make the reservations. The particular hotel will have a shuttle service and you will receive instructions on where to catch the shuttle with your reservation form.

"Can you book a day room for us in Frankfurt?"
Yes, we will take care of it, including instruction on shuttle services, etc.

"How do I pay for my tickets?"
We will send you an itinerary woth payment instructions at the bottom. Payments can be made either by credit card or by check. Credit card payments will require an authorization form to be completed and faxed back to us. We will send you this form attached to an e-mail - you then print it out, complete it and fax it back to us.

"If we do not stop over, do we still need to collect and recheck our luggage?"
If you are simply transiting through Frankfurt or Johannesburg, you will require no permits. Your luggage can be booked straight through to Namibia. Whichever route we choose for you, African Odyssey will take care of any and all paperwork needed.

"Do you have business class fares?"
Yes we do on most routings, subject to availability.

"Do we owe you any additional fees for your services?"
No, you don't! We get compensated by the airlines. However, if you are using frequent flyer miles, we will charge you US$ 250 for our services. The airlines will not pay us for bookings using frequent flyer miles, so we have to look to you for payment.

"Do we need shots or immunizations for entering Namibia?"
Namibia do not require any shots. However, we recommend that you make sure your tetanus shots are up to date.
"What about malaria?"
Namibia has a very low incidence of malaria, but he decision has to be yours. If you are travelling anywhere in the north of Namibia, it is essential that you see you doctor for a course of anti malaria pills.
"Do we need passports to enter Namibia/South Africa?"
Namibia requires that you have a passport. No visa is required, but your passport must be valid for a period of six months beyond your return date. It must also contain two blank pages side by side for official stamps. This is important - if your passport does not meet these requirements, you will not be allowed to board.
"Do we have to have our passport before making our reservations?"
Your reservations can be made and your tickets can be issued without having your passport. Your first and last names have to be the same on ticket and passport, so make sure your passport application is correct. Middle names and initials are not required for your tickets, even if they appear on the passport.
"My tickets have been issued but the names do not match my passport?"
You MUST contact African Odyssey immediately.

"How far in advance can we make our reservations?"
Flights are normally loaded into the systems about eleven months in advance. Even if you are planning your trip for further than eleven months out, contact us and we will get you in our system. We will then contact you as soon as reservations can be made and tickets issued.

"Do we get paper tickets or e-tickets?"
This will vary. If your ticket is a paper ticket, you must have that with you when you check in. If it is an e-ticket, you need only your passport to check in with, but it is a good idea to have the e-ticket number also. The number will be on the itinerary we will send you as soon as the tickets get issued.
If you should lose your paper ticket, you MUST contact us immediately. Losing a paper ticket is almost like losing cash, as there sometimes are severe penalties payable for a reissue.
You cannot lose an e-ticket as it exists as an electronic entry on the system. You need only your passport to be boarded, but in case of a problem with the reservation system, it is a good idea to have the confirmation numbers with you.
"How do I know if there are any schedule changes to my reservations once the tickets have been issued?"
Normally the airlines will let us know and we will contact you. However, sometimes last minute changes make this impossible, so you need to contact the airline prior to each flight to check for changes.
"How often does Air Namibia fly into Windhoek from Frankfurt?"
Note: Arrival/Departure time in Windhoek may vary according to the time of year.

Flights depart the US for Frankfurt on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Departure times are late afternoon/early evening and will arrive in Frankfurt early next morning. You then spend the day in Frankfurt and depart for Windhoek late evening. Arrival time in Windhoek will be around 09h00 the next morning.
On the way back flights from Windhoek to Frankfurt will depart on Monday, Wednesday, Saterday and Sunday. Departure time will be around 20h50 in the evening and will arrive in Frankfurt around 05h40 the next morning. You will connect to your onward flight within about five hours, so will arrive back in the USA that same day.
"We want to do some sightseeing in Namibia after our hunt, what do you suggest?"
African Days offer many options for sight seeing tours. Please refer to them direct in this regard.
"What happens if I don't have an e-mail address?"
You can call our office at any time to book your flights or ask questions. (Numbers are at the top of this page). We will send any paperwork via regular mail. An e-mail address is a good idea, though, as it makes communications so much easier and quicker. (Also, it is free from Yahoo!)
"If I buy anything that is too bulky to fit in my luggage, or my allowance for free baggage is exceeded, how do I get my stuff home?"
It is actually better to pay the excess baggage fee rather than send it via cargo.
"What happens to my trophies after a hunt?"
Please make this enquiry directly with African Days.
"What do I need to know about travelling with firearms?"
Pieter at African Days is the right person to answer this question for you. The only problem will be if you need to overnight in South Africa, where there is quite a bit of paperwork to complete. Namibia is no problem. Airline baggage insurance is not enough to cover your firearms in the event they get lost in transit, so make sure your home owners policy covers that eventuality. Before leaving the USA, you must visit your nearest Customs office and complete a form CBP 4457 - Decleration of Personal Effects and list your firearm(s) on it. Not important when you are leaving the country, but very important when you return. Bows currently do not require any form of documentation and is regarded as luggage.
